Text Box: Greetings once again to all Alpha Sigma alumni! As with last year, I was asked to contribute a closing piece to this newsletter. So, please allow me to fill you in on the progression of the group over the last year.
The 2001-02 school year was not the brightest in Alpha Sigma history. However, the rumor mill has spun a far worse story than was actually the case. Various individual members had some problems with the college administration last year, ranging from social rules violations to academic integrity questions to academic trouble. These things resulted in a few one-week suspensions and numerous withdrawals from school. We had a few members with some personal issues as well, which resulted in their decision to withdraw for a semester or for their career. All of this placed the group under close scrutiny by the entire campus community, and even various alumni. Add in some missed obligations in service to the Department of Music and Fine Arts, and the Alpha Sig reputation was beginning to tarnish. Contrary to some rumors, the group never lost its charter through all of this turmoil.
However, fire can also shape and form character. Responding to the challenge, the officers stepped up, took the brunt of the criticism, and rallied the members around the basics of what Alpha Sigma has stood for since 1974. To help Text Box: ensure that service needs are met, the group added an amendment to the constitution, charging the Vice President with the responsibility of coordinating with the Chair of the Music and Fine Arts Department on all service needs. The mass exodus created a need to take another large class of new members: 14 fine young men became Alpha Sigs last spring. These men are rapidly learning of the traditions of this fine housing group and will live up to the expectations of past generations. I know that all of the members look forward to meeting you and hearing about the history of the group at Homecoming. Even if you cannot attend, maybe you could take a few minutes to write them a letter of encouragement and a story or two from your experience here. I know they would love to hear about their roots.
I encourage you to get to know this group of individuals. If you attend Homecoming, I hope that you would stop and meet them, either as you pass the familiar AS letters on shirts or the infamous jackets, or by joining us at our Fall Party that evening. We look forward to seeing you.
 Sincerely,
Bob Kerin

Text Box: bring in (or mail in) any pictures of the group when you were involved. Feel free to use the enclosed envelope. Also, please think of any traditions that you remember and pass them down to someone in the group through email, regular mail or by coming out to support Fall Party 2002. I look forward to hearing from, or seeing, all of you soon.

Text Box: Hello there all our illustrious alumni! It’s your friendly Alpha Sigma historian. It’s a new year with a new class of guys who have joined the group. As every year passes, new traditions and activities take place within the group that gives us fun memories to look back on and a great deal of pride to wear the green and gold. One thing we wish to guard against however, is the loss of older traditions and ideas that we can look back on and continue for years to come. So what I propose is for all former members to contribute to the future of the group. Please Text Box: Page #
